Leaders Address Surge in Violence in Capital City

Montgomery Public Safety Director Chris Murphy and Police Chief Ernest Finley say the lack of communication skills and the inability resolve conflicts are in part to blame for the surge in deadly violence across the city over the Memorial Day weekend.  Montgomery Police Detectives are investigating five homicides, four shootings and one stabbing that left five males dead.  The homicides occurred between Saturday and Monday on Shenandoah Drive, East Smiley Court, Malabar Road, Lower Wetumpka Road and South Court Street.  Montgomery has recorded 15 homicides this year.

Abortion Clinic

Legislation that would prevent abortion clinics from locating within 2,000 feet of a public K-12 school was approved by the Alabama House on Tuesday, the final vote was 79-15.  Proponents and opponents engaged in a lively debate prior to the vote.  GOP Representative Ed Henry of Hartselle is sponsoring the bill.  Birmingham Democrat Mary Moore said abortion protesters are the problem, not the clinics.  The abortion bill now moves to the Alabama Senate.
