Law Enforcement Meeting To Discuss Widespread Illegal Drug Use

Officials from several state agencies are planning to meet this week to discuss concerns over illegal drug use in the state.  Officials say the group is scheduled to meet Wednesday morning at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Montgomery.  The meeting comes after public health officials said that hospitals throughout the state have reported more than 400 people between March 15th and April 20th experiencing symptoms linked to the use of synthetic marijuana, known as "spice."  

Ford Supports Marsh

Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh is getting support from an unusual source, Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford.  Ford held a press conference in Montgomery Tuesday saying he supported Marsh's gaming proposal and wished Marsh was the governor instead of Robert Bentley.  Marsh says he hopes to introduce a casino and lottery bill next week after GOP senators said they are at least open to debating legalizing gambling in Alabama.  

Wetumpka's New Hotel

Wetumpka's mayor says the city is getting a new hotel.  Jerry Willis made the announcement Tuesday on the WSFA morning show.  A groundbreaking was held at 11 a.m. for a Hampton Inn to be built in downtown Wetumpka.  

ASU Occupation Expo

The 6th annual Culture and Occupation Expo will be held Thursday, April 30th on the campus of Alabama State University.  The event, sponsored by the Department of Occupational Therapy will be held at the John L. Buskey building from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.
