Labor Day Holiday Gas Prices

Motorists can expect to see lower prices at the pump over the Labor Day holiday weekend.  AAA of Alabama reports the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.20.  That's 14 cents less than at the same time last year.  Birmingham has the state's most expensive gas at $3.23 a gallon for regular.  Tuscaloosa is cheapest at $3.13.

Hey Neighbor

The city of Montgomery wants residents to do a better job of tending their curbside.  "Hey Neighbor" is a new beautification campaign being promoted by the Montgomery Clean City Commission and the BONDS organization.  Executive Director of the Commission Susan Carmichael says homeowners are encouraged to participate.  For now the Greater McGehee Estates is the pilot neighborhood for the new campaign.  Any neighborhoods interested in participating can call the clean city commission at 625-2175 or BONDS at 625-2207.

Bond Request

A state appeals court says a Cullman County judge must consider a bond request by a father charged with killing the man who molested his daughter.  The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals ruled that Circuit Judge Gregory Nicholas must hear a motion to reduce the $141,00 cash bond set in the case.

Cellphone Dependency

A group of students at Alabama State University have co-authored a study on cell phone dependency among undergraduates.  Among other things, they found that undergraduates are relying on phones for more daily tasks than ever before.  Dr. Richard Emanual, ASU communications professor, guided the students in their research but says they took on the primary duties associated with the experiment.  Their findings will be published this fall in the "College Student Journal."
