By Judge tells Larry Langford he must report to prison April 5
Birmingham, AL – - Former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford's
request to stay out of prison while his bribery conviction and
sentence is appealed has been denied.
FOX6 News in Birmingham also reports Wednesday that Langford's
attorney, Michael Rasmussen, has filed papers asking that the
former mayor's report-to-prison date be pushed back by one week.
Langford is set to report to a federal lockup in Ashland, Ky.,
on April 5 and had asked U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler to let
him remain free until the appeal is decided.
The dapper politician was convicted on 60 felony charges and
removed from office for taking bribes including expensive jewelry,
clothes, loan payments and cash.
Montgomery investment banker Bill Blount admitted showering
Langford with items to get bond business while Langford was
president of the Jefferson County Commission.
