By Judge rejects investment banker's request to delay prison report date
Birmingham, AL – - A federal judge has denied a request by
Montgomery investment banker Bill Blount for a 60-day delay in his
prison sentence for his involvement in the Larry Langford case.
Blount, along with Al LaPierre, a lobbyist who pleaded guilty to
conspiracy and filing a false tax return in the same bribery scheme
involving the former Birmingham mayor, are scheduled to report to
federal prison May 27.
Blount asked the federal court to grant him the delay so he
could try to finish paying $1 million he owes the U.S. government.
U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler did not elaborate on his
reasons for denying the request. Blount was sentenced to 52 months
in prison and to pay the forfeiture money after pleading guilty to
conspiracy and bribery charges.
