Judge blocks task force from raiding bingo operations

By Task force stymied in attempt to raid bingo halls in Macon, Houston counties

Montgomery, AL – - Hundreds of state police have been stymied
in attempted raids on two multimillion-dollar bingo operations in
Alabama.
A court order blocked an attempt by the governor's antigambling
task force to raid VictoryLand at Shorter, which reopened Friday as
officers left. A judge refused to allow a raid, pending a hearing
next Friday.
At Dothan, some 140 troopers and law officers gathered in the
early morning for a raid on the Country Crossing casino. But most
left after attorneys for the casino said the troopers lacked any
search warrant or legal authority to raid it.
Antigambling task force chief John Tyson said he is asking the
Alabama Supreme Court to clear the way for raids. He contends the
bingo machines are illegal.
