Job Creation Announcement

State officials and corporate executives will make a major economic development announcement they say will create jobs statewide and particularly in the Tennessee Valley of north Alabama.  Governor Robert Bentley's office has scheduled a news conference for this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the old House chamber.  Leaders are expected to announce a development project affecting Huntsville, but Bentley's office says the impact is statewide.

State Immigration

Alabama's much debated immigration law is costing taxpayers a lot of money.  The state has agreed to pay another $230,000 to civil rights groups that sued over the state immigration law in 2011.  The agreement, announced on Monday, brings the total paid by the state government to $580,000.

Teen Identified

Authorities in Lowndes County have recovered the body of a teenager who drowned Sunday near the Holy Ground Battlefield Park picnic area in Lowndesboro.  Relatives of 17-year-old Lucas Pantaleon said the teen had moved to Alabama from Mexico just months ago and was trying to have a swimming race at Cypress Creek when he went under in about 14 feet of water.  Dive teams from Montgomery, Elmore and Chilton counties assisted the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department in search and recovery efforts Monday morning.

Historic Trail

A Montgomery city councilman wants the historic trail center moved from Alabama State University to the St. Jude Educational Institute on West Fairview Avenue.  City Councilman Tracy Larkin introduced the resolution last month.  Next year will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March.  ASU officials have defended the National Park Service's decision to place the Interpretive Center on the ASU campus.  Larkin's resolution will be debated at tonight's city council meeting.
