JFK Anniversary

Fifty years after President John F. Kennedy's life was cut short by an assassin's bullet, Alabama State University will mark the day with a solemn ceremony at the ASU Library off North University Drive.  Today's citywide commemoration will feature remarks by Boston native, Father Thomas McQuillen, pastor of St. Jude Church. 

Montgomery's 44th Homicide

Montgomery police say a 29-year-old man who was involved in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon on East South Boulevard.  While trying to drive himself to a hospital has died.  Police have determined that Keon Sankey of Montgomery was shot twice near the intersection of Burgwyn Road and Kippax Street.  Sankey died Thursday morning.  Police said no arrests have been made.  Sankey's death is the city's 44th homicide this year. 

New Charges

Authorities in Elmore County have filed new charges against a Tallassee man jailed in connection with a child sex case.  Elmore County District Attorney Randall Houston said all of the original charges, more than 100, against Stephen Conrad have been dismissed because of tainted evidence.  Conrad is now charged with two counts of rape , three counts of sex abuse of a child younger than 12 and a single count of sex abuse.  Conrad remains in the Elmore County Jail on bonds totaling $410,000 dollars. 

Rhino Death

An Indian rhinoceros has died at the Montgomery Zoo just a month after the death of her baby.  The female named Jeta was 12-years-old.  The cause of death isn't yet known and zoo officials say tests from a necropsy could take more than a month to complete.  Jeta's baby, a rhino named Ethan, was considered a milestone in the zoological community.
