Ice Storm

Winter weather is  still is gripping the South, the massive storm knocked out power to a wide band of the region.  From Texas to the Carolinas, roads are slick.  Businesses and schools are closed and people are beginning to deal with the aftermath of the storm. 

Amtrak Trains

Amtrak is suspending some trains as winter storm moves through the South and the Northeast.  Amtrak says the suspensions are meant to reduce the exposure of passengers crews and equipment to extreme weather.  The suspensions include trains between New York and several destinations in the South.

Payday Legislation

A legislative committee is sending a payday loan regulation bill to a subcommittee, and the move has upset the sponsor, Rep. Patricia Todd says the state needs tighter restrictions on the lenders.  She says the loans trap poor people in debt.  Payday lenders, however, says customers choose those loans to avoid late fees and bank overdrafts charges. 

Deadly House Fire

A woman and her daughter are dead after a house fire in north Alabama.  Authorities in Limestone County say a son who lives in the basement went upstairs to find flames in the house about 12:30 Wednesday morning.
