Hyundai CEO Says Not Enough Workers

Hyundai Motor America's top executive is telling the Advertiser newspaper that he doubts the Montgomery area will be considered for a new auto assembly plant.  Hyundai CEO Dave Zuchowski said Montgomery may not have enough trained workers to staff a second plant.  Zuchowski also said Hyundai could announce a site for its new assembly plant within the next 90 days.  The head of Alabama Commerce Department Greg Canfield says the state can provide the workers for an auto plant.

Tick Tock

Time is about to run out for a lottery and casino bill in the Alabama Legislature.  The gambling bill will be dead for the session unless it wins Senate approval Thursday.  Senate President Pro Tempore Del Marsh had proposed allowing Alabamians to vote on creating a state lottery and allowing casinos at state dog tracks.  Legislative rules make it difficult to pass controversial Senate bills in the final four days of the 30-day session.

Death Investigation

Another case of violence has left an adult male dead.  Montgomery Police are conducting a death investigation after a man was found shot to death Wednesday evening at the Vaughn Lake Apartments on Vaughn Road.  Police said a suspect was taken into custody and charges are pending.  The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting have not been disclosed.  Violence across Montgomery since last Saturday has resulted in the deaths of six people.

New Members

Governor Robert Bentley has sworn in members of a newly appointed two-year college system board created by the Legislature this session.  Bentley issued the oaths of office to the members at the board's first meeting Wednesday morning.  The eight appointed board members come from each of Alabama's congressional districts.  Alabama operates 25 community and technical colleges across the state.

Principal Leaving

Montgomery's newest high school is losing its principal.  Park Crossing High Principal Rocky Smith has resigned, effective June 30th.  Smith has accepted a job at another school system according to Montgomery School officials.  Smith was named principal at Park Crossing in 2013.  He has worked in the Montgomery Public School System since 2002.
