Husband and Wife Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

A Montgomery police officer and his wife were arrested Sunday morning and charged with domestic violence.  Dan Barrett, 23-year-old and Trudy Barrett 30-year-old, were both charged with one count each of domestic violence third-degree, a misdemeanor, according to Montgomery police.  They were both transported to Montgomery City Jail.  Bail amounts weren't released.  Dan Barrett joined the Montgomery police force in 2014.  Montgomery police have started termination proceedings against the officer.  

Divorce Seal

A judge has ordered that Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley's divorce case be sealed from public view.  Tuscaloosa Circuit Judge Elizabeth Hamner issued the order Monday after the couple's attorneys jointly requested that the records be kept private.  Dianne Bentley filed for divorce on Friday.  

Hunger Action Month

The Montgomery Area Food Bank wants your ideas for raising awareness on the issue of hunger.  As part of Hunger Action Month this September the organization is hoping to receive input from new groups and individuals on way to solicit donations.  Media Coordinator for the Montgomery Area Food Bank, Al Bloom, says they certainly appreciate the support from their long-standing partners.  Bloom says there is also a social media effort for the public to take selfies of themselves performing the Spoon on the Nose Trick, then send it to the food bank's Facebook page.  For more information on Hunger Action Month and how you can participate, go to montgomeryareafoodbank.org.  

Voter Registration

Officials with the Secretary of State's Office  are encouraging citizens to register to vote and obtain proper identification.  Advertisements will be launched Tuesday in print, radio, television and social media.  Secretary of State John Merrill says the goal is encourage all eligible residents to participate in the electoral process.  The statewide program will be held through the months of September, October and November.
