Hubbard Defends Himself Against Ethics Violations

Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard spoke out Tuesday regarding the 23 indictments returned against him claiming ethics violations.  The veteran lawmaker from Lee County says the recent allegations are nothing more than a political scheme to dismantle progress of the Republican party.  Hubbard says he will use the next several weeks to uncover and expose those behind what he's calling a political attack.  He also is looking forward to the chance to be re-elected and move forward.  

Helping Business Grow

A panel that would come up with ideas to help small businesses in the state has been on Governor Robert Bentley's wish list since he took office.  The Alabama Small Business Commission held its first meeting Tuesday in Montgomery.  The governor says part of the group's job will be to reduce bureaucratic red tape.  The governor signed an executive order to create the commission last month.  It is composed entirely of small business owners and entrepreneurs.  

Family Violence Forum

Students at Alabama State University held a Family Violence Forum on campus Tuesday.  The student-led event raised awareness of all types of violence, including elderly abuse and abuse of under studied populations.  Nearly 50 students and faculty attended the 2nd annual forum that was held in the J. Garrick Hardy Student Center.
