Homicide Arrests

Montgomery Police have also charged two people in connection with a homicide from March of last year.  Investigators say 22-year-old Rodricko Davis and 19-year-old Elijah Frazier, both of Montgomery, have been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Larry Wells.  The slaying occurred during the course of a robbery, according to initial reports.  The two men were already imprisoned at the time of their arrests Thursday on previous capital murder charges from a November, 2013 homicide.

Apartment Shooting

Police have been on the scene Thursday of a shooting at an apartment complex on Court Street.  Authorities tell WSFA that a man was shot Thursday afternoon near the Tree Top Apartment complex in the 1700 block of Court Street.  The victim has been taken to a local hospital, where he was last reported with non-life threatening injuries.  No other information is available at this time.

2014 Elections

People thinking about running in Alabama's 2014 elections will now have to make a decision two months earlier than they thought.  Alabama's chief election official, Secretary of State Jim Bennett, announced that qualifying for major party candidates will end Feb. 7th rather than April 4th.  Bennett says he reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to move up the deadline to make sure there is plenty of time for county absentee ballot managers to get ballots to Alabama military and other Alabamians living overseas.  The agreement resulted from a suit the Justice Department filed against Alabama to make sure military members can get absentee ballots and return them in time to be counted.
