Holiday Traffic Fatalities

Alabama state troopers have reported 10 traffic fatalities during the Fourth of July weekend.  Troopers also say they investigated 237 accidents and 123 injuries on the road from the long holiday weekend that began late Thursday and ended Sunday night. 

Honor Guard Ribbon

Several service men and women joined Governor Robert Bentley Monday as he signed an executive order to create the Alabama Honor Guard Ribbon.  This honor recognizes those who serve at funeral services for eligible veterans.  The Funeral Honor Guard Team members typically present a flag to the next of kin at the funerals of fallen veterans. 

Prison Overtime

Authorities say one prison in Alabama, the Donaldson Correctional Facility, accounts for 14 percent of more than $20 million in overtime paid to prison guards and workers last year.  Corrections officials say the prison system uses overtime to bolster chronic staffing shortages throughout the prison system. 

New Development

A multi-million dollar project is expect to start this fall in Tuskegee.  Construction crews are scheduled to turn dirt at Exit 38 in Tuskegee.  Mayor Johnny Ford says the Montgomery Eastchase-Auburn Tiger Town style complex will have a positive economic impact.   Ford says the plaza will include several restaurants and a 24-hour service station.
