High School Janitor Accused of Rape

A high school janitor in Alabama has been arrested on a rape charge after an official says he had sex with a 15-year-old student and got her pregnant.  Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson says 31-year-old Victor Milhouse has been charged with second-degree rape and a school employee engaging in sex with a student under the age of 19 years old.  Milhouse was arrested Tuesday.  Milhouse worked at Southside High School, and had been an employee with the school system for three years.  Milhouse is being held in the Dallas County Jail without bond.  Milhouse is set to appear in court Thursday.

National Guard

The Alabama Army National Guard is conducting a recruiting campaign to make more people aware of the jobs and other great benefits provided by the government in exchange for their service.  The National Guard currently has over 1,000 positions open across the state where young men and women can acquire skills that will translate into better opportunities.  Lieutenant Colonel Brad Benton says this campaign is an effort in work force development across the state.  The recruiting will be held through October.  More information can be found at nationalguard.com/AL.

SNAP Benefits

Millions of people who rely on assistance programs to purchase food could see their benefits diminish or stop if the federal government shuts down Oct. 1.  The U.S. Department of Agriculture said unless Congress passes funding measures to keep government agencies open, funding for 46 million Americans that receive the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP or more commonly, food stamps, will not be available.

Boat Tag

Lawmakers are proposing a specialty boat tag to raise revenue for Alabama state parks.  Republican Senator Gerald Dial and Republican Representative Margie Wilcox held a news conference Wednesday morning in Montgomery announcing the proposal.  Senator Dial says the boat tags would cost about $50.  He adds the legislation would raise about two-three million dollars for state parks.
