Perry County Health Department officials say they are entering a different phase of their effort to contain a tuberculosis outbreak in Marion. They are no longer paying residents to get tested or attend follow-up appointments. About 3,000 people live n Marion and just over 2,100 have been tested. Of those, 100 people have latent tuberculosis infections and 27 have the active disease. Alabama Department of Public Health Director of TB Control Pam Barrett says in either case, its important to receive treatment. Free testing will continue to be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday at the Perry County Health Department. No appointment is needed.
