Governor Tours Rural West Alabama

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley visited rural west Alabama this weekend to discuss the state's response to storms that caused significant damage in several areas.  Gov. Bentley toured Pickens County on Saturday and discussed the importance of storm shelters.  The National Weather Service has said two tornadoes touched down in Pickens County Tuesday night and two others also hit Lamar and Fayette counties.  Officials say the tornadoes that hit Pickens County had peak wind speed of 135 mph and 85 mph.  The National Weather Service says a tornado that hit Lamar County had a wind speed of 105 mph, and a tornado that hit Fayette County had a peak wind speed of 90 mph.  Bentley says the Alabama Emergency Management Agency is working with local officials to offer support in affected areas.
