Governor Pushes for New Revenue in Special Session

Alabama's governor continues to make the case for new revenue to shore up the financially-strapped General Fund budget.  Robert Bentley said he's optimistic about getting a budget agreement in a special session this summer despite the gridlock that plagued lawmakers in the regular session.  On Monday, Bentley said many legislators have already voted for local tax bills or allowed agencies to raise fees.  Last week, Governor Bentley rejected a General Fund budget that would have cut $200 million from state agencies.

Former Pastor Sentenced

A former Dallas County minister has pleaded guilty to charge of rape and incest.  District Attorney Michael Jackson said 48-year-old William Best received a 20-year sentence for rape and a 10-year sentenced for incest on Monday.  Jackson said the plea deal gives some justice to the victim.  Best was the pastor of Living Waters Church in Valley Grande until April 2014 when he was arrested on sex charges involving a minor.
