Governor is Optimistic Lottery Will Pass

Governor Robert Bentley says he is cautiously optimistic that his proposal for a state lottery will pass in an upcoming special session. The governor made his remarks at a cabinet meeting on children’s issues today. Bentley admits he is not a fan of lotteries, but says too many state services are at stake.  The governor says he will push for a simple lottery bill that does not include casino gambling. He fears that if casinos are included, the legislation will die. Since it is a constitutional amendment, the proposal needs to pass both chambers by at least 60 percent. The special session begins August 15.
