Governor Hints at Medicaid Expansion

Governor Robert Bentley hinted Tuesday that his administration is considering expanding Medicaid in Alabama.  Bentley has previously opposed expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.  The governor said Tuesday that he is "nudging toward expansion."  Proponents have argued that expanding Medicaid would add millions of federal dollars to the state's health care programs especially in rural counties.  

Roby Questions

USA Today Newspaper reports Montgomery Congresswoman Martha Roby will question Hillary Clinton about the 2012 terror attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya.  Roby is a member of the special House Committee probing the September 2012 attack that left a U.S. Ambassador and three other Americans dead.  Roby would not reveal what she will ask Hillary Clinton who was the Secretary of State at the time of the attack.  Clinton will testify Thursday.  

Counterfeit Money

CrimeStoppers of Central Alabama says someone is passing counterfeit money at retail outlets in the River Region.  Troy Police have posted a surveillance photograph on the CrimeStoppers webpage that shows an unidentified male with a reddish beard whom police have called a person of interest in the case.  Authorities also said counterfeit currency has been used in Crenshaw County and at retail outlets in Montgomery.  If you have information, call CrimeStoppers at 215-STOP.  

Ethics Complaint

A west Alabama judge is under fire and the subject of an ethics complaint after he forced people unable to pay court fines and fees to donate blood or face jail time.  The Southern Poverty Law Center said Perry County Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins threatened defendants in his court with jail time on September 17th.  SPLC attorney Sara Zampierin says far too often in Alabama, legal rights are tied to an individual's bank account.  The Southern Poverty Law Center field a complaint against Judge Marvin Wiggins on Monday with the Judicial Inquiry Commission.
