Governor Bentley Refuses Syrian Refugees

Governor Robert Bentley says he's won't allow Syrian refugees to relocate in his state.  In a statement issued Sunday, Bentley said "after full consideration of this weekend's terror attacks on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions program.  As your governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm's way."  According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency there has been no credible intelligence of terror threats in Alabama.  Friday night's terrorist rampage across Paris killed 129 people and wounded hundreds more.  

Carson Visit

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is scheduled to visit southwest Alabama for a rally and a fundraiser this week.  Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill said Carson is scheduled to speak at a rally at the University of South Alabama in Mobile Friday afternoon.  The retired neurosurgeon also visited Pike Road for a luncheon in August.  Nine presidential candidates have visited Alabama ahead of the March 1st southeastern regional primary.  

Unity Pep Rally

A Unity pep rally aimed at bolstering support for the nation's Historic Black Colleges and Universities was declared a success.  The event was held on the campus of Alabama State University.  The president of Prairie View A&M University joined ASU President, Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd for Friday's pep rally.  

Troopers Honored

Four Alabama State Troopers have been singled out for good deeds while assisting citizens in distress.  At a Friday ceremony Troopers Justin O'Neal, Richard Pittman, Capitol Patrol Trooper J.T. Morrow and Trooper Devylon Williams were honored by Governor Robert Bentley.  Trooper Williams was commended for feeding a homeless man and his son near Interstate 65 in Prattville.
