By Gov rejects resolution that would establish code of ethics for teachers
Montgomery, AL – - Gov. Bob Riley is not giving up on his
effort to put ethical standards for teachers in Alabama's
administrative code.
Riley was surrounded Tuesday by teachers and school
administrators when he vetoed a resolution passed by the
Legislature that rejected the code.
The Alabama Education Asssociation opposed the ethids standards,
saying they were too vague.
The code of ethics includes language saying teachers should not
use alcohol or tobacco at school, should not misuse public funds
and should not commit child abuse.
The resolution now goes back to the Legislature where it will
need 18 votes in the Senate and 53 in the House to override the
governor. The resolution originally passed the Senate 18-10 and by
a 43-32 vote in the House.
