Fred Shuttlesworth

By Robb Taylor

Birmingham, AL – The Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, a leader in the civil rights movement, is being treated for pneumonia and dehydration at a Birmingham hospital. The 86-year old Shuttlesworth was taken Sunday from the nursing home where he has been staying to Saint Vincent's hospital. His wife, Sephira Shuttlesworth, says her husband is in stable condition but would likely stay in the hospital at least a few days. Shuttlesworth, who has been in continuing frail health after a stroke last year, was hospitalized in November with a urinary tract infection.
