Former Riley Staff to Oversee Stimulus Spending in Alabama

Montgomery, Alabama – Alabama is on tap to receive money from the economic stimulus plan, while the amount that each state will receive has not been finalized, Governor Bob Riley has decided who will oversee Alabama's spending of the money.

The governor is paying $195 per hour through an emergency contract for Drayton Nabers and David Perry, both attorneys with a Birmingham law firm, for two months of work.

Nabers was Riley's state finance director from 2003 to 2004. Perry was an assistant finance director in 2003-2004.

Riley says he contracted with Nabers and Perry because there was no on in state government to handle the complicated legislation and the state needs to move quickly to get the funds from Congress.
