Former ALEA Secretary Cleared of Wrongdoing

Former Law Enforcement Secretary Spencer Collier has been cleared of wrongdoing by a grand jury. The Alabama attorney general's office yesterday issued a statement that an investigation requested by Governor Robert Bentley into Collier’s activities as head of ALEA is now closed after a grand jury found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. Bentley fired Collier in March saying a review found possible misuse of funds. The findings were sent to the attorney general's office. The release from Luther Strange’s office said that no misuse of money was found or even a basis for initiating the investigation. Collier's attorney has called the ALEA review a retaliatory "sham" because Collier exposed Bentley's relationship with a top aide.
