Ferguson Unrest

The looting, fires and street violence looks like a repeat of August, only worse, according to the police chief of St. Louis County, Missouri.  The violence erupted after last night's announcement that a grand jury decided not to indict a police officer for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.  Alabama State University Criminal Justice professor, Karen Taylor said a grand jury proceeding is suppose to be a secret process, but Taylor said it appeared the governor knew there would be no indictment.  Michael Brown's mother burst into tears and started screaming before being taken away by supporters.

Bodies Found

The Montgomery Police Department is conducting a death investigation after two bodies were found Monday morning in a north Montgomery house.  MPD said it received a call just after 8 a.m. regarding the bodies inside a residence in the 500 block of Percy Drive; located off Highland Avenue.  Police declined to say if the victims lived in the house nor did they release their identities.  Additional information about the case could be available later today.

Buckle Up

Alabama State Troopers have a stern message for drivers and passengers, use a seat belt.  Trooper Sgt. Steve Jarrett said troopers investigated eight deadly traffic accidents that left 11 people dead between last Friday and Sunday night.  Sgt. Jarrett said seven of the victims were not wearing a seat belt.  The deadliest wreck occurred Sunday night on Firetower Road near Wetumpka Sunday.  A patrol car driven by Elmore County Sheriff's Deputy James Bart Hart collided with a vehicle, killing the deputy and three teenagers.  A fourth teenager was critically injured.  Last night, dozens of people gathered in the Wetumpka High School Gymnasium to remember and pray for the victims and their families.

Victims Remembered

Hundreds of people packed the Wetumpka High School Gymnasium last night to remember the four victims of Sunday night's head-on crash near Wetumpka that left a  sheriff's deputy and three teenagers dead.  State Troopers and Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said a car driven by 16-year-old Austin Ryan Augustine collided with a patrol car driven by Deputy James Bart Hart.  Augustine and two passengers, Dylan Bieber and Hoyt Hardin, both of Wetumpka, were killed, a third passenger, 16-year-old Nicolas Benjamin of Eclectic remains hospitalized in critical condition.   A funeral for Deputy James Hart will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Thelma Baptist Church.  Funeral arrangements have not been announced for the three teenagers.
