Fatal Shooting in Montgomery

Gun violence in a west Montgomery neighborhood has left one person dead.  Montgomery Police said the fatal shooting happened last night in the 2400 block of Sandy Street.  MPD said an adult male was shot and killed last night just before 8:30 p.m. No additional information has been available regarding the circumstances behind the fatal shooting.  MPD also is conducting a death investigation after two people were found dead at a residence in the 5100 block of Newbury Lane.  The bodies were found Friday afternoon.  Police are withholding the names of the two deceased individuals. 

Moral Mondays

The organization, Moral Mondays is holding a rally on the steps of the Alabama Capitol.  Organizers say speakers will call on state lawmakers to expand the Medicaid program, fair housing, a living wage and address other social injustices.  The Reverend Dr. William Barber, founder of Moral Mondays in North Caroline will be the keynote speaker.  State Senator Quinton Ross of Montgomery and Bernard Simelton, president of the Alabama chapter of NAACP will also speak.  The rally starts at 11 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m.

Jury Selection

Dozens of potential jurors are reporting to the Lee County courthouse for the capital murder trial of a Montgomery man charged with killing two former Auburn University football players and another man.  Jury selection will begin today for the trial for 24-year-old Desmonte Leonard.  He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. 

Hur Wins

South Korean golfer Mi Jung Hur celebrated her second tour win to capture the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic in Prattville.  Hur finished with a 6 under 66 for a tournament record 21 under 267 total.  Hur opened with rounds of 64, 70 and 67 on Capitol Hill's links-style Senator layout.  She broke the tournament mark of 19 under set in 2010 and a check for $195,000.  Top-ranked Stacy Lewis finished second.
