By Former Ohio cop wanted in old murder dies of self-inflicted wound

Phenix City, Ala – - Authorities say a former Ohio police officer
apparently shot himself to death as police in Alabama tried to
arrest him shortly after he was indicted in a 1991 Ohio murder.
Montgomery County, Ohio, officials and Alabama authorities say
43-year-old Tommy Swint was found dead with a head wound inside his
Phenix City, Ala., home Wednesday at about noon. That was an hour
after a grand jury in Dayton, Ohio, returned a murder indictment
against Swint in the death of a woman found beaten, strangled and
left in a brush pile 18 years ago.
Ohio authorities say they used DNA evidence to tie Swint to the
death.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says Alabama deputies heard what
sounded like a gunshot as they approached the former Trotwood,
Ohio, officer's apartment.
