Montgomery, AL – Officials with the E.D. Nixon foundation have announced plans to honor and recognize the life of the late civil rights leader. The foundation's newly appointed executive director, former Tuskegee Mayor Johnny Ford, calls Nixon the father of the civil rights movement in Montgomery. He said the annual E.D. Nixon Banquet will be held February 15th at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Montgomery. The group is also calling on the corporatecommunity as well as elected officials to help with fundraisers to support the efforts to revitalize the works of late civil rights activist. Nixon was the head of the Montgomery branch of the Pullman Porters union and president of the local NAACP. He is also credited with helping to bail Rosa Parks out of jail.
