Drug Trafficking Ring Busted

U.S. Attorney George Beck and other law enforcement officials announced  what they believe to be the dismantlement of a major drug trafficking operation within the Alabama Prison system.  The drug sting resulted in multiple arrests and a seizure of about 30 pounds of narcotics.  Special agent Clay Morris, with the Drug Enforcement Administration credits the success of this case to cooperation amongst law enforcement.  Authorities say more arrests are expected in this case. 

Auburn Crash Investigation

Police in Auburn say they're investigating a crash involving a semitrailer and a freight train.  Capt. Lorenza Dorsey tells the Opelika-Auburn News no injuries have been reported in the Thursday morning crash and the cause of the accident is under investigation.  Police say the truck was carrying wooden pallets and was en route to Loachapoka at the time of the crash. 

ASU Career Fair

Alabama State University held its annual career fair Thursday.  Nearly 60 companies, agencies and organizations participated in the event.  According to the Bloomberg Business Week website U.S. jobless claims have dropped to their lowest numbers since 2007.  WVAS News spoke with several representatives about the figure's impact on their recruiting efforts. 

Inmate Death

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is probing the death of a Dallas County jail inmate.  Sheriff Harris Huffman said 39-year-old Sandra Hudson was found unresponsive in her cell Monday morning after she refused to eat her breakfast.  Huffman said Hudson was taking several medications and was scheduled to attend drug rehab on Thursday.  Hudson was in jail on charges of theft, credit card fraud and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.  Hudson's cause of death is unclear and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is doing an autopsy.
