Dr. Gwendolyn Patton Remembered This Week in Several Services

   Civil rights activist Dr. Gwendolyn Patton will be remembered this week at several services. Patton passed away last week at the age of 73. The Freedom Fighter championed numerous causes in her life as an activist. She became the first female student government association president at Tuskegee University. She was a founding member of the Alabama Democratic Conference, the National Rainbow Coalition, the National Anti-War, Anti-Draft Union and the National Association of Black Students. An archivist for Trenholm State Technical College in recent years, she also served as Montgomery Coordinator for the National Historic Voting Rights Trail. A reception in Dr. Patton’s honor is scheduled for this Thursday at Trenholm State College Library at 5:30pm. A Delta Sigma Theta, Montgomery Alumnae, Omega Omega Service is also planned for Friday night at 6 o’clock at the Ross-Clayton Funeral Home. The next day, Dr. Patton’s funeral is being held at Hutchinson Missionary Baptist Church in Montgomery as 11am.
