Dozens of lobbyists appear before federal grand jury

By Lobbyists answer questions regarding vote buying probe

Montgomery, Al – - Lobbyists representing gambling
interests are reporting to the federal courthouse in Montgomery to
give records or testimony involving the investigation of possible
vote buying for legislation to expand electronic bingo.
Some lobbyists said they met Tuesday with FBI agents to deliver
records that had been subpoenaed. Others said they testified to the
federal grand jury that has been probing the gambling bill that
passed the Senate this spring but died in the House.
Three lobbyists - Don Gilbert, Noopie Cosby and Michael Sullivan
- told reporters that they knew of nothing improper, and they told
that to investigators.
Gilbert represents the charity that operates the closed White
Hall Entertainment Center. Cosby represents Nevada Coastal, which
is building a casino in White Hall. Sullivan represents machine
manufacturers Bally and Nova.
