DEA's Operation Pillution Nets Dozens of Arrests

The Drug Enforcement Administration is raiding pain clinics, pharmacies and other locations in four southern states as part of a crackdown on prescription pain drug abuse.  A federal law enforcement official says the early morning raids in Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi are the final states of a nearly yearlong operation by the DEA's drug diversion unit.  Since last July about 140 people have been arrested, and agents expect as many as 170 more Wednesday.

Tebow Act

A bill allowing home school students to play public school sports and other activities might finally catch a pass after years of fumbles.  The Senate Education Committee on Wednesday held a public hearing for legislation named after the Heisman-winning University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.  Tebow played for his local high school football team while being home-schooled.  Proponents say student of tax-paying families should be allowed to participate in extracurricular programs.  Opponents say home-schooled students can't pick and choose which parts of public school life they want.  Committee Chairman Dick Brewbaker says the bill is gaining momentum and would have been approved by a vote.

Sweating Toddler

A two-year-old child was found locked inside a vehicle in Opelika on last night.  Opelika police say the child was found sweating and locked inside the vehicle with no adult around.  The windows were cracked, but the vehicle was turned off and locked.  The temperature outside was 84 degrees, according to police.  The child was removed from the care and transported to East Alabama Medical Center where he was evaluated and later released to  family members.  Police say the child's mother and her companion were located in a nearby restaurant eating dinner.  Both were arrested and charged with endangering welfare of a child.
