Deadly ATV Accident

An accident involving an All-Terrain-Vehicle claimed the life of a Wetumpka man.  State Troopers report that 37-year-old Antonio Farrow was killed when the ATV he was riding ran off the road and struck a tree.  The wreck happened just after 7:30 Monday night on Elmore County Road 348, about eight miles north of Wetumpka.  Troopers say Farrow was wearing a helmet, however they also say ATV's are difficult to control on paved roads and are not legal to operate on roadways.

Prison Reform Task Force

An Alabama state senator was one of four witnesses to appear in front of a subcommittee of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee Tuesday.  The panel had invited the group to speak on prison reform.  Republican Senator Cam Ward of Alabaster heads up the newly created Prison Reform Task Force in Alabama.  He told committee members that Alabama's prisons are the most overcrowded in the nation.  Ward recommends an expansion of programs that keep people out of prison.  Ward hopes the task force he chairs will offer more prison reform proposals to the legislature next year. 

New Facility

Governor Robert Bentley says GKN Aerospace has opened a new design engineering center at its facility in Elmore County.  Bentley joined GKN executives for Tuesday's announcement at the International Air Show in London.  The center in Tallassee will create 30 new jobs and provide additional expertise in the design and assembly for aircraft and helicopters. 

All-Star Baseball

The city of Montgomery will host next year's Southern League All-Star Baseball Game.  Montgomery Biscuits owner Sherrie Myers joined Mayor Todd Strange to make the announcement Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium.  Montgomery previously hosted the Southern League All-Star Game in 2006.
