Criminals in Mobile Steal Thousands with Worthless Checks

Mobile, Alabama –
CALVERT, Ala. (AP) - Store owners near the ThyssenKrupp steel
mill site in north Mobile County say they've lost thousands of
dollars in a bad-check scheme.
A sign that says 'No ID: No $" now hangs above the check
cashing counter at the BP station in Calvert. It went up after more
than $10,000 worth of bad checks were cashed in one day. Owner
David Boshell says his business had a considerable amount of
counterfeit checks to bounce.
Down the road, at the Shell station more than $8,000 worth of
bad checks were cashed.
Store owners say the people cashing checks claimed to be working
for a ThyssenKrupp contractor, but investigators believe they
blended in with those workers to carry out the scheme.
