Coverage For All Kids Health Insurance is Expanding

Montgomery, AL – (AP) - Coverage for Alabama's All Kids
subsidized health insurance plan is expanding, and state officials
expect to sign up thousands of more children for the program.
Families that earn up to three times the federal poverty level,
or $66,156 for a family of four, will be eligible beginning Oct. 1.
Currently, the limit is twice the federal poverty level.
Cathy Caldwell, director of the bureau of children's health
insurance with the Department of Public Health, says the great
majority of Alabama's uninsured children will now be eligible for
Medicaid or All Kids.
At present, 68,971 children are enrolled in All Kids. Caldwell
estimates 14,000 more children will be eligible under the
expansion.
