Clinton Endorsement from African-American Mayors

The mayors of Birmingham and Tuskegee and the former mayor of Selma are among more than 50 African-American mayors so far who are endorsing ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president.  Clinton visited Alabama on Saturday to give a speech to the Alabama Democratic Conference, a predominately black organization, in which she criticized Alabama's voter ID laws and the decision to close 31 driver's license satellite offices in the state.

Silver-Haired Legislature

The Alabama Silver-Haired Legislature is meeting in Montgomery this week.  The nonpartisan group of citizen volunteers conducts a session much like the actual state legislature, debating bills and passing resolutions.  Governor Robert Bentley addressed the gathering Tuesday.  After his remarks he spoke with reporters about the work of the actual legislature, saying he expects better results.  Members of the Silver-Haired Legislature are all 60 years old or more and work on issues of interest to older Alabamians.  Their resolutions are then presented to the governor and legislators.

More Testimony Possible

A judge is leaving open the possibility that indicted House Speaker Mike Hubbard can take additional testimony from Attorney General Luther Strange and his employees as he tries to get ethics charges thrown out.  Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob Walker Tuesday laid groundwork for a key hearing next week.  Walker didn't rule on a state motion to dismiss defense subpoenas for Strange and some workers.  Instead, Walker says he will decide later.  Walker did indicate that any testimony from Strange and his employees would be taken outside court.

Bishop Apology

A former professor who killed three colleagues and wounded three more at the University of Alabama at Huntsville is apologizing.  Amy Bishop Anderson says she is "terribly sorry" for her victims and her own family in a hand-written court document filed earlier this month.  Bishop Anderson pleaded guilty in 2012 to opening fire during a faculty meeting and shooting six colleagues in a conference room at UAH.
