Casino Owner Seeks Gaming Vendor

VictoryLand owner Milton McGregor says if he can find an electronic machine vendor, the shuttered casino will soon reopen.  McGregor made the comments Tuesday after a Montgomery judge said he will delay a decision on whether to return more than 1.600 gambling machines seized in a raid at the VictoryLand complex in 2013.  Circuit Judge Williams Shashy said he want to see what happens in other pending cases and the Legislature before deciding on the request by McGregor.  In June, the judge ruled the state Attorney General's Office was unfair when it singled out VictoryLand for prosecution.

Ice Cream Production

Public health officials are allowing Blue Bell to resume the production and sale of ice cream manufactured at its Alabama plant.  Jim McVay with the Alabama Department of Public Health, said Blue Bell can resume full production at its facility in Sylacauga.  McVay says product testing and trial runs have shown no indications of the listeria contamination that caused a crippling recall in April following illnesses in four states, including three deaths in Kansas.

New Position

Alabama's longtime health officer is leaving the state to become president of the Alabama Hospital Association.  Dr. Don Williamson told the Associated Press Wednesday he will step down as head as the Alabama Department of Public Health.  The Alabama Hospital Association says Williamson will take over as president of the private organization around November.

TSA Firearm Guidelines

The Transportation Security Administration is encouraging the public to be aware of firearms requirements when traveling.  TSA spokesman Mark Howell demonstrated how to properly pack a weapon Wednesday at the Montgomery Regional Airport.  Howell advises travelers to visit the TSA website for more information about carrying weapons.
