Capital Murder Arrest in Montgomery

Police have made an arrest in a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday night in Montgomery.  26-year-old Terrence Butler has been charged with capital murder in connection with the robbery and shooting of 33-year-old Trevis Green.  Police say the incident happened in the 4000 block of Troy Highway.  Butler has been placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.  

ASU Homecoming

Ten-time Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan is the headline performer for this year's Turkey Day Classic Homecoming concert.  The R&B superstar is best known for chart-toppers such as "I'm Every Woman, " "Through the Fire," and "I Feel for You." Montgomery's own Toia Jones, who appeared on NBC's "The Voice," will open the show.  The Hornet Homecoming concert will take place at ASU's Dunn-Oliver Acadome on  Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m.  Tickets are a$30 dollars and are available at the ASU Box Office (334) 229-4551.  

Salvation Army

Local homeless shelters took in anyone without a place to stay last Thursday night due to the bitter cold.  As a policy the Salvation Army opens its cold weather shelter whenever the temperature falls below 45 degrees.  Director of Social Services for the Salvation Army Jason Davis says with the increased population, so goes their need for supplies.  If you'd like to make a contribution to the Salvation Army or volunteer, you can call them at (334) 265-0281.  

Alabama Barbeque

The Alabama Tourism Department is promoting a new book called "Alabama Barbeque: Delicious Road Trips," and two Montgomery restaurants are featured.  Brenda's Bar-b-que Pit and Sam's Barbeque made the list of more than 75 eateries highlighted in the book.  Brian Jones, department spokesman says the book is designed as a BBQ lovers travel guide.  The restaurants were selected across 52 Alabama cities by author and former travel writer Annette Thompson and photographer Art Meripol.  A book signing will be held on Dec. 1st, 5th and 8th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion Gift Shop.  

ASU Builds Playground

Children at the Chisolm Boys and Girls Club will be greeted by a brand-new playground Monday morning.  More than 150 Alabama State University volunteers joined forces with others from across the River Region to construct a dream playground for the youngsters, a feat they said only took six hours to complete.  The community service project marked the official start of the annual ASU Homecoming Week.
