Bruno's Grocery Chain Sold for Millions

Birmingham, Alabama – (AP) - A federal judge has approved the sale of the Birmingham-based Bruno's Supermarkets chain to a grocery wholesaler.
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Benjamin Cohen on Monday approved the sale of the bankrupt grocery chain to Southern Family Markets of Birmingham, the retail arm of New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers.
Bruno's, which has 56 stores in Alabama and the Florida panhandle, sold them for $45.8 million.
Southern Family Markets plans to continue operating 31 stores,
but 25 will be closed and sold.
