British Petroleum $18.7 Billion Settlement

Officials in four Gulf states, including Governor Robert Bentley and Attorney General Luther Strange, have announced an $18.7 billion settlement with British Petroleum.  A settlement that resolves years of court battles over the April 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.  The settlement was also announced this morning in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.  It comes as a federal judge in New Orleans is preparing to rule on how much money BP owed in federal Clean Water Act penalties.  The spill sent over 125 million gallons of oil into Gulf waters.  

DUI Arrest

A prominent Alabama state senator has been released from jail after being arrested on a charge of driving under the influence.  Shelby County jail records show Republican Cam Ward was released early Thursday.  Sheriff's officials say the 44-year-old lawmaker was arrested Wednesday afternoon by police in his hometown of Alabaster.  During the regular session, Ward chaired a prison reform task force that crafted legislation to restructure state prisons and sentencing guidelines.  

Deadly Crash

State Troopers say a Wetumpka man was killed last night in a single vehicle crash in Elmore County.  Troopers said 30-year-old Tyrone Glover died when the SUV he was driving struck an embankment and overturned.  A passenger was injured and hospitalized.  The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on Elmore County 667, three miles north Wetumpka.  Troopers said Glover was not wearing a seat belt.  

Capital Murder 

Montgomery Police say a 21-year-old man is charged with capital murder in connection with the May 24th shooting death of 24-year-old Sanchez Freeman, the victim was slain on Malabar Road.  The U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Markuise Flynn in Highland Home in Crenshaw County on Tuesday.  MPD said Flynn is being held in the Montgomery County Jail under no bond.
