Bone Chilling Cold

Temperatures plunged into the single digits across Alabama for a second straight day.  Low temperatures at this hour range from 3 degrees in Haleyville to 14 degrees in Montgomery.  The National Weather Service also reported pre-dawn temperatures of 5 degrees in Huntsville; 9 degrees in Anniston; and 10 degrees in Tuscaloosa.  Many of the temperatures are 20 to 30 degrees below normal for this time of year. 

Blood Drive

The American Red Cross needs your help, the agency has joined forces with area radio stations, including WVAS-FM, to host the Radio for Red Cross blood drive today at Eastdale Mall.  Red Cross Recruitment Manager Ashley Smith said donors must bring proper identification.  The Radio for Red Cross blood drive at Eastdale Mall runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Traffic Fatalities

Alabama State Troopers say 17 people died in traffic-related crashes over the Christmas and New Year's holiday.  According to the Department of Public Safety, eight drivers, eight passengers and a bicyclist were killed in traffic accidents.  Troopers investigated traffic deaths in Bullock, Chambers, Dekalb, Escambia, Franklin, Jackson, Macon, Marengo, Marshall and Talledega counties.
