Best Part Of Being 5? Taking Off Training Wheels

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

You may remember that TELL ME MORE is five years old. We've had a blast celebrating our fifth anniversary all week and recalling our favorite moments on the show.

Now, here's something I didn't know until one of our NPR executives pointed it out to me. Five years of TELL ME MORE comes to approximately 1,300 hours of programming. That's 78,000 minutes of TELL ME MORE. That's a lot of talking.

But guess what? There are more great conversations ahead, so to help us kick off another five years, here are Eric Miles Darby and Lauren Darby, five year old twins from Marietta, Georgia.

ERIC MILES DARBY: I'm Miles.

LAUREN DARBY: And I'm Lauren. And we're twins.

DARBY: And we're twins. We're five year old twins.

DARBY: We're five year old twins.

DARBY: Being five is so fun because I'm in kindergarten in the same class as Miles.

DARBY: We get to color and do fun stuff, and we get to watch a movie if we stay on green card.

DARBY: In April, we started learning how to ride our bikes. Our dad took off our training wheels.

DARBY: Yeah. Dad took off our training wheels.

DARBY: It was my turn. Mama, Lauren always says things when it's my turn.

DARBY: Lauren, what do you think the best thing about five is?

DARBY: We're almost going to be six. Miles, what are excited about being six?

DARBY: Nothing.

DARBY: Really?

DARBY: Happy anniversary, Michel Martin.

MARTIN: That was Eric Miles Darby and Lauren Darby of Marietta, Georgia. We were lucky enough to find these young listeners thanks to our Facebook fans and we'll be hearing more from five year olds across the country all this week as we celebrate our first five years on the air.
