Bentley Continues Push for Prison Construction

Governor Robert Bentley says he is disappointed in the failure of his prison construction bill, but said he will not give up on the issue.  The governor said Thursday that he would not rule out a special session at some point, but added that it would not be anytime soon.  Bentley's proposal to borrow hundreds of millions of dollars to build new prisons failed on the final night of the legislative session.  Senators approved a scaled-backed $550 million plan.  The House did not vote on the bill.  Bentley said prison conditions and overcrowding remain a major problem.  Inmates have sued the state over medical care and inadequate facilities for disabled inmates.
