The Montgomery City Council will meet last this afternoon.  On the agenda is a hotly debated rezoning request that would allow Wal-Mart to build a grocery store on a section of the now-closed Bonnie Crest Country Club on Federal Drive.  Last week dozens of residents voiced their opposition at a public hearing.  However, Mayor Todd Strange has said that Wal-Mart has the right to build the grocery store.  The Montgomery City Council meets today at 5 p.m. at City Hall on South Perry Street.

Superintendent Search

The Elmore County School Board has narrowed the search for a new school superintendent to three candidates.  The three finalists were named Monday by the Alabama Association of School Boards.  They are: Prattville High School Principal Richard Dennis; Robert McCartney, the principal of Oxford High School; and Dr. Andre Harrison who currently serves as an assistant superintendent of Elmore County Schools.  The three finalists are vying to replace Dr. Jeff Langham who is resigning to take a position with the state Department of Education.  Langham has recommended Harrison for the position.
