ASU's Center Releases Transportation Study

Without an infusion of new revenue, Alabama's public transportation system will soon face a crisis in funding.  That's one of the conclusions from a new study by Alabama State University's Center for Leadership and Public Policy.  The report blames the lack of investment from the state for isolating state residents both in and outside major cities.  Arise Citizens Policy Project Stephen Stetson says increased funding for transportation infrastructure could be gained with toll roads or a raise in the state's portion of the gasoline tax.  For more of the study, go to arisecitizens.org.

Foreign Services

Students interested in a career overseas attended a presentation by the United States Agency for International Development at Alabama State University Monday.  Program Officer Tessa Henry spoke about two fellow opportunities saying it's a chance for students to travel the world and help people.  The scholarships require U.S. Citizenship, a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and enrollment into graduate school by the fall of 2015.  Henry says information on the Payne scholarship and the Charles B. Rangel program can be found at Rangelprogram.org and Paynefellows.org.
