ASU Launches "I Love ASU" Giving Campaign

Alabama State University is launching it's "I Love ASU" 30-day giving campaign, which begins Valentine's Day and ends on March 15th.  According to ASU's President, Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, the university is asking supporters to show their love for the university by giving.  Boyd said last year, the community showed its support in a big way by donating more than $150,000 during the inaugural 30 Days of Giving program.  Online donations will be accepted at www.alasu.edu/giving or by mail or by phone at (334) 229-4431.

Victim Information

An Alabama school system says a former student should have to reveal her name publicly to pursue legal claims that a school worker used her as bait for a sexual assault.  Madison County schools have filed documents opposing anonymity for a 19-year-old woman who claims she was raped at school in 2010 during a scheme hatched by a teacher's aide to catch another student accused of improper sexual advances.  An attorney for the young woman calls the system's position unusual, but a school board attorney says it's consistent with the law.

Alleged Scuffle

An inmate at the Montgomery County Detention Facility is accused of punching a corrections officer in the face multiple times.  Maurice Baldwin Thompson, 18, was charged with second-degree assault in the Feb. 11th attack.  According to Thompson's arrest warrant, Thompson became agitated and used his left and right fists to punch the female corrections officer numerous times in the face.  Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Chief Dave Bryan confirmed Thompson was already an inmate at the time of the assault, but he couldn't immediately provide information on Thompson's previous charge.
