ASU Hosts Confederate Memorial Day Conference

The first-ever Confederate Memorial Day conference was held on the campus of Alabama State University Monday.  Event organizer Dr. Derryn Moten, acting chair of the Department of History and Political Science say hosting the groundbreaking seminar is a reflection of Montgomery's unique existence.  Moten says the conference explored the role of African-Americans in the Confederacy, Civil War and Civil Rights.  

Barber Murder

Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has posted a surveillance photograph of a male suspect that Montgomery Police believe to be the suspect in the unsolved murder of a Montgomery barber.  The public's help is needed to find the gunman who shot and killed 36-year-old Charlie "Jay" McCord at his now closed barber shop, Mr. Barber Man, located at the corners of Mount Meigs Road and Chase Street.  Charlie McCord was murdered on October 14th of last year at about 12 noon.  CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can identify the suspect.  The CrimeStoppers number is 215-STOP.  

Selma Distribution

The much talked about movie "Selma" will be distributed to every high school, public and private in the United States.  Paramount Home Media said teachers can also receive free companion study guides to enhance discussions on the voting rights events of 1965 that are depicted in the film.  Additional information can be found at www.selma4students.com.
