Another Lottery Proposal Being Offered

At least two lottery proposals are now in play for an upcoming special session of the Alabama Legislature. State Senator Jim McClendon of Springville says he will introduce a second lottery bill that would allow electronic lottery terminals at dog tracks. McClendon estimates the bill would bring in 427 million dollars annually, with most going to the general fund. The legislation would authorize Governor Robert Bentley to enter into a compact with the Poarch Creek Indians. Senator McClendon is also sponsoring Governor Bentley's lottery bill. He says he doesn't have a preference for which bill passes, as long as one of them does. The special session begins August 15.
