Another Arrest in Montgomery Weekend Homicide

A second man has now been charged in a murder from this weekend in Montgomery.  33-year-old Clarence Lamar of Montgomery has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Cordarryl Foxhall, Saturday in the 1900 block of Hilldale Drive.  Lamar was placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.  Police had already charged Lamar's cousin, 39-year-old Demetrius Lamar, with murder.  No word on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.  

Fatal Shooting

Montgomery Police are conducting a death investigation into a fatal shooting that happened early Sunday morning.  Emergency personnel responded to the 300 block of Airbase Boulevard at about 3:42 a.m. on a report of a subject shot.  25-year-old Donald Davis of Montgomery was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  No other details have been released.  Police ask anyone with information on the incident to call them at (334) 625-2831.  

Mental Health

Mental Health organization in Alabama rallied Monday against proposed budget cuts that could hamper efforts to treat residents with developmental and intellectual disabilities.  Groups like Wings Across Alabama offer services that would be impacted or eliminated.  Wings' Executive Director Darlene Berry says approximately one of out of every four adults experience some type of mental issue.  Without new revenue to the general fund budget, the proposed cuts to the Department of Mental Health total $35.2 million; counting federal matching funds that would be lost, the total is $99 million.  

Life Sentence

A judge has sentenced an Alabama woman to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the running death of her 9-year-old granddaughter.  Joyce Hardin Garrard held hand with her defense lawyer as Etowah County Circuit Judge Billy Ogletree handed down the sentence Monday.  Nine-year-old Savannah Hardin collapsed after running and died three days later in 2012.  Prosecutors say Garrard mad the child run for hours as punishment for a lie about candy.
